At Malenka Originals, we’re passionate about transforming unwanted, outdated furniture into contemporary, beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces. And we’re also equally passionate about helping and teaching others to do the same.
A unique combo of workshop and store, Malenka Originals is a place to learn, share, and get inspired about painted furniture.
Started in 2011 by Katrina Barclay as an at-home business painting and selling furniture, Malenka Originals opened in September 2012 in Britannia Village, Ottawa, and then moved to its current location in Hintonburg in March 2016.
Along with selling select pieces of refreshed furniture, Malenka Originals is the exclusive Ottawa stockist for Chalk Paint™ decorative paint by Annie Sloan. We also carry the full line of other Annie Sloan products such as Soft Wax, paint and wax brushes, books, fragrances and fabrics.
In Fall 2020, Malenka Originals was pleased to add Canadian-made Fusion Mineral Paint and accessories to our product line-up.
Also available are many other products for refreshing furniture such as General Finishes, Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint, Iron Orchid Designs, Mint Decoupage Papers, Artisan Enhancements paint mediums, Royal Design Studio Stencils, Madeline Wax and Paint Brushes, and a wide range of decorative drawer knobs.
We also offer workshops for those wanting a creative space to learn more about techniques for painting furniture. Workshops will be posted on the Malenka Originals online shop.

About Malenka Originals furniture.
We source the best solid wood furniture possible, made from the best hardwoods (mahogany, maple, oak), and also pieces in solid pine. Most pieces were made in Canada, and many others come from the USA and England. Using colour and refinishing techniques, we aim to refresh each piece in a unique and different way, making it truly an original. We strive to retain the furniture’s character as much as possible, letting some of the old charm shine through, while also giving the piece a new life.
