A very special collaboration — and a dream come true for Annie Sloan — led to the Chalk Paint™ Charleston Collection.
Charleston is an English farmhouse in Sussex, England, where Bloomsbury group artists Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant (two of the most radical and influential British artists of the twentieth century) lived. The house was a frequent stop for some of the greatest minds of the 1920s, 30s and beyond, including Virginia Woolf, E.M Forster and Roger Fry. The house became a canvas to the artists. Drawing inspiration from the home, Annie Sloan has created three new Chalk Paint™ colours in collaboration with Charleston. The new colours are bright and bold — just like the farmhouse — and are named after local places the artists would have known.
RODMELL
Rodmell is a damson purple, influenced by the painterly washes of twilight shades on the Studio walls, the creative hub of the farmhouse for over 50 years.
Rodmell is the first true purple in Annie’s collection. It looks gorgeous with Clear Wax (as pictured below), but a shop favourite is with Black Wax, which gives it a smoky, dramatic look.
Here you can see some of Annie’s inspiration for the colour with her storyboard.
FIRLE
If you’re looking for a real ZING for your pieces…let me introduce Firle.
Firle is a fresh, zesty and crisp green which echoes the gorgeous distemper of the wall surrounding the mantelpiece in Clive Bell’s study.
How amazing is this colour! (Especially against that Aubusson Blue Wall — swoon!)
TILTON
All three Charleston Colours are gorgeous, but we are particularly over-the-moon about Tilton.
Inspired by the beautifully painted circle motif on Vanessa Bell’s decorative wardrobe, we think Tilton is the perfect yellow!
Tilton is a deep, earthy mustard with an unmistakable vibrancy.
Pow! We really can’t get enough of this yellow. It seems our customers can’t either — it’s been flying off the shelves since it arrived.
As you can see from Annie’s storyboard, Tilton is a dream alongside Burgundy and Olive. But it also pairs beautifully with greys (Paris Grey, Chicago Grey) and blues (Aubusson and Greek in particular).
We’re very excited about these three fun, vibrant additions to Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint™ line!
(Oh and just so you know — Rodmell, Firle and Tilton are currently only available in litre size.)
We’ve got samples at the shop painted in all three shades using Clear Wax, Black Wax, Dark Wax and White Wax — pop in soon to see for yourself!
