The Refreshed Furniture Pop-Up Shop celebrates and showcases Ottawa’s incredible passion and love for upcycling and painting furniture.
Katrina Barclay, owner of Malenka Originals, held the first Refreshed Furniture Pop-Up Shop in September 2013, bringing together passionate, local furniture painters to showcase their work. Pieces were all painted using Chalk Paint™ decorative paint by Annie Sloan.
After three Pop-Up Shops at Malenka Originals’ first store in Britannia Village, it moved to Somerset Square, across from Malenka Originals new location in Ottawa’s Hintonburg neighbourhood.
The fifth Refreshed Pop-Up Shop was held on September 30th, 2017 . There was a huge turn out, lots of furniture went to new homes, AND we finally got beautiful sunny weather (it only took five years!).
We had a fantastic group of 14 local furniture artists who turned out an incredible array of upcycled pieces and decor.

REFRESHED FURNITURE POP-UP SHOP AT THE HOME AND REMODELLING SHOW
In February 2017, we were thrilled to be asked to bring the Refreshed Furniture Pop-Up Shop to the Ottawa Home and Remodelling Show — it was such a success we did it again in 2018 & 2019!
The four-day event featured over 100 pieces of beautiful, upcycled furniture, hand-painted by local furniture painters in all shapes, sizes and colours.
In conjunction with the Pop-Up, Malenka Originals hosted a TRY DIY area where we held workshops and demos showcasing Chalk Paint™ decorative paint by Annie Sloan, as well as other products for refreshing furniture.
